What have I been up to? hehehe I've been out here in paradise all the time.
After leaving good ole Philpotts Road I headed out here to Kwajalein Missile Range.
The life out here is different, better in some ways, worse in others.
On the plus side, it's a very small community, you know just about everybody and and everyone is very friendly. Very low stress environment. Off work by 3pm, on the beach with a cold Corona by 3:15. Housing, meals and utilities are paid (except for
phone) so you have almost no expenses. Company gives you $1750 per year, a RT
ticket to Hono and 9 extra vacation days per year for R&R. And your income is tax-free (you do pay flat 5% to the Marshall Islands). Saving money is easy and vacations are great. The fishing, snorkeling and diving here are awesome.....and the best beaches in the world are all but empty.
The downside? No Pizza Hut, Olive Garden or McDs.... most of your shopping is done via the net (max connection 33kbps) and mail takes 2 to 6 weeks......no Fedex overnight here folks!
When I got here we had no TV except the 2 Armed Forces channels. I petitioned the Army for funds and we set up a 24 foot dish, built a small building and installed equipment, and we
now have our own cable system distributing 9 channels (hehehe, it IS a big deal out here).
I got married 3 years ago but Iv'e been in treatment and it looks like it's in remission now.
Had some great vacations to New Zealand, Australia, Norfolk Island, Pohnpei, and a few back in the states. I'll be heading back stateside for another vacation in June.....probably northern Kentucky (looking at some property there).
I talked with Deanna Corriere a while ago, before she left Semcor, not sure where she is now.
Ricky Huber (from RSC in Middletown) is down here. I get emails from Mike Moe and still get
Christmas cards every year from Lynn Thruston (both from SSD)......that's about the only contact
I've had with the old crew.
Nice web page, good to see news from all the old gang. Hope everyone is doing well.

I'm doing well. Still
selling those hot dogs at Best Square in Norfolk Virginia and loving
every minute of it! I suspect I could be considered the
"Weenie Queen" of Norfolk by now. (Now, don't have a
field day with that...). After our stay in Nebraska,
I came back to Virginia because here is where I was most comfortable
and it proved to be a good choice. I'll always be thankful for
Dennis' association with you guys because it gave me to opportunity
to know some very good people. So... whenever you want a good
hot dog - you know where I am!

Chuck
and Karen JAGOW still live in Greenbrier with their daughter
Cheryl. Their son Michael is in the Army at Fort Stewart GA and
is 21 and married to a girl named Rebecca, they have no kids, yet...
Cheryl
graduated from Indian River high school in the summer of 1999.
She immediately got a job with the city of Chesapeake and she now
works in juvenile courts as a clerk. She has bought herself a
new car and is doing well, still living at home.
Karen
left Wendy's management about two years ago and is now a manager at
Waldenbooks in the Macarthur Center mall in downtown Norfolk.
She likes it very much at the bookstore and still enjoys her cats of
which she has three, a big fat orange one, a pear shaped gray striped
one and a runt gray striped alley cat.
Chuck
left Raytheon and went to work for Sabtech Industries, a very small
southern California based company for about 8 months until they wanted
him to move to Anaheim. From Sabtech he went to work for Unidyne
corporation supporting a government surface Navy contract. In
May of 99 he left Unidyne and took a position with NSWC Dam Neck which
was then a small division of NSWC Port Hueneme. Just recently
the division has split from NSWC Port Hueneme and has become Combat
Directional Systems Activity, Dam Neck a command in their own right
that is affiliated with NSWC Dahlgren. Chuck works with a group
of engineers developing and installing peripheral emulation systems.
We build a single 72" cabinet that houses emulations of the UYH3
disk drive, RD358 magnetic tape drive, USQ69 display terminal and
TT624 printer units. These are on LHA 1-5, CVN68, LHD7 and
perhaps soon on more ships. We have also built and installed a
UYK7 emulator for the Egyptian Navy.
The
Jagows still have a multitude of animals in the house, three dogs and
three cats. Chuck's rottweiler Bart is the king, followed by the
mutt Molly and Cheryl's Jack Russell Terrier Chester. Anybody
want a cute Jack Russell terrier???? Please................
Anyone...................... HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
Chuck
still has his 1986 Harley Davidson and it is ridden as much as
possible.

Mary and I are still living in Ledyard, CT. I work for a company called e-Learning in Mystic, and Mary is still working in a "shark tank" (LAWYERS) up in Hartford.
Does anyone remember Butch Dixon? He worked for Jim Garland up at Sub Sig. He's the director here at e-Learning. Patrick belongs to Uncle Sam for a couple more years, and Crystal is preparing for college in another year. Sherlock is still kickin' it...he's going on 9. Hey Chaney! Yours is still the only car that he ever puked in!...LOL It has been a long time since RSSC closed up. Even longer since Jack and I left when it was RSC. Since then we've lived in NC, PA, FL, and now CT. No more moves until it's retirement time! (knock on wood). |

Wilbanks, Pete | peter@captaincomputer.com |
Shortly after moving to the Suffolk location and our wise, all knowing Government "BRACed" us I decided to take the option to move to Newport. Once there it didn't take long to realize that there wasn't any work for the people from Seabat. About 5 months after moving to Newport I took a six month leave of absence to pursue a opportunities as a pc repair technician. This proved extremely lucrative and opened doors to many new ideas and possibilities. Nuwc offered a financial incentive in exchange for my resignation and I took it.
I married Kelli Morrison (our friendly bartender at Groton Motor Inn) in August of 96. Together we established a small computer business in the Groton/New London area and called it Captain Computer. Our objective was to provide high quality computer components and services. The business grew beyond our expectations and now we enjoy an excellent reputation as a custom computer systems builder and network solutions provider for Mystic Hilton, Mohegan Sun Casino and various commands at Naval Submarine Base to mention a few.
Recently, I was offered the opportunity to become System Administrator for Non Tactical Data Processing System on Virginia Class submarines at Electric Boat, "They made me an offer I couldn't refuse", so I took it. The system's purpose is to provide a totally paperless environment for the sailors to access documents like NWPs, SOP, SSORM, tech manuals and procedures. It's secondary purpose is to bring entertainment like MP3 music, on demand Movies and video family grams to each rack on board. Kelli manages the staff, and day to day operations at Captain Computer and I get to play on the biggest and most powerful gaming network the U.S. Navy owns, Life is good.
I'm really looking forward to getting together one day for some reminiscing and perhaps getting that book out that we all talked about so much. I am certain that there are many new "stories" that we all have to share.

Hey - What's UpChuck !
This is really great man! Already got it bookmarked and HEY drop the Y, it's W-N-E-K dude just like the radio station. Let's all get together some time maybe we could throw a SEA-RAY (SEABAT-RAYTHEON) party!!
To let you, ya'll, you'ze guys, youins & yins know what's goin' on, first Donna Belanger-Johnston divorced DJ Belanger, then I divorced Alice ... SO ... We married each other! Third time for both of us and yes - it IS a charm! We've been sharin' the same sleeping quarters for a tad bit over 5 years now. We married in May of '98 in a Smoky Mountain Chapel located above Gatlinburg, TN. Both of my children 18 and 17 now, as well as Donna's oldest 21, are all out on their own and living in Virginia Beach. In fact, Donna's oldest daughter made Donna a Grandma in March of '00. Our children's names are (respectively) Carolanne, Andrew, Sarah (and daughter Tiffany) and Donna's youngest Mandy, 15.
Well we tried life out in the country and lived 14 miles north and a couple miles west of Elizabeth City, NC for 5 years in an area called Morgan's Corner where you can find "Carver's Fish Market & Shoe Repair" ???? Can you imagine what those people (who own shoes) feet must smell like ;). The only problem is that we didn't realize that ALL civilization as we know it, would cease to exist. When a number of your neighbors step out on January 1st and July 4th and all start shooting their shotguns... I mean, come on!!! So... we got a couple of Westies (White Toto's), bought a house in Virginia Beach, both work at Nexcom (Navy Exchange Headquarters), I a Network Engr / Unix Systems Admin, just took over our worldwide Sun Solaris / Microsoft 98 network group and Donna a Systems Admin / Tech Analyst is new to NEXCOM (she's only been there for 7 months). She works in the Test Lab and helps ensure new applications work properly before they're released into Production. She's beginning to develop an Automated Test Environment whereas scripts will execute the tests against the applications, vice manually executing the tests. Since she left Raytheon, she's worked for CSI (as a Sys Admin), Litton PRC (as a DBA/Programmer/Analyst), and FCBS (as a DBA/Programmer/Analyst). Oh, yeah we both worked on a Coast Guard IT Contract for a couple of years while down in NC, she for the prime (that's when she worked for FCBS) and me for the sub.
Are ya'll startin to see a pattern here? I got to travel the world twice rollin' out our network and now am settled down. Only trips are either to schools or conferences. Will be down in New Orleans last week in January. Three best things - Our Health, Our Family, Our Friends. Next three - High Speed Internet Access, Napster and Jeepin' Down on the Outer Banks! 2001 is the year we became debt free f-i-n-a-l-l-y!!!
Lookin forward to seeing EVERYONE at what I hope can be the 1st SEA-RAY (SEABAT-RAYTHEON) party!!! Let's make that happen. Best wishes to ALL of You and Yours! Write to us at dwnek1@home.com ...Derek & Donna Wnek
